Chr. Hansen develops natural ingredient solutions such as cultures, enzymes, colors and functional systems in close cooperation with our customers and partners. Our ingredients are used in the food, pharmaceutical, nutritional and agricultural industries.
The company was founded in 1874 in Copehnagen by a Danish pharmacist, Christian D. A. Hansen. Today, the company is onwed by PAI Partners, a private equity firm, and has more than 2,000 employees in 30 countries. Its revenue in 2008/09 was EUR 511 million, or $798 million.
Chr. Hansen's major research facilities are located in Denmark, with development centres in Denmark, the US, France and Germany, application centres in more than 20 countries, and extraction and production plants on five continents.
In Australia, Chr. Hansen has offices in Melbourne and Adelaide. The Melbourne office handles administration, finance, sales and marketing, product applications, quality management, customer service and warehousing logistics. It also provides support for the company's New Zealand operations. The Adelaide factory produces enzymes and colours and handles production, warehousing and administration.
Chr. Hansen supplies the Australian market with natural ingredients for cheese, yogurts, beverages, snacks, processed meats, bread, wine and probiotics for human health.
